A Celebration of WinterThe Living History Society of Minnesota cordially invites one and all toAnnual Winter CelebrationFebruary 19, 20, 21, 2010 * Saint Paul, MinnesotaThe Living History Society of Minnesota was shocked and saddened by the passing of one of our founding members and our most recent past president, Mr. William Kepler, on January 13th. Our grief at this sad event, and all that ensued, unfortunately cast a pall on our plans for our Celebration of Winter, also known as Winter Weekend 2010. While we gathered together to comfort one another and share in our mourning, we decided that it was important to go ahead with our plans for the event, while making a few necessary changes. Schedule of EventsFriday, February 19: Theatrical Evening. The theatrical has been postponed. Instead, on Friday evening a social with parlor games, entertainments, and light refreshments will be held at the Triune Masonic Lodge. Ticket price and timing remains the same. The doors open at 7 pm. Attire of the mid 19th century is Respectfully required.POSTPONED EVENT: A home-style theatrical event, "The Scottish Play", featuring readings from William Shakespeare's Macbeth, Poetry, Tableaux, and musical entertainments of the Caledonian persuasion. Saturday, February 20: Dance Workshop. A dance workshop for the purpose of learning all manner of dance and etiquette in preparation for the ball. The workshop begins at 9 am, and includes a lunch break. Comfortable modern attire is appropriate. The hall will close afterwards, but will reopen at 6:30 pm for those wishing to use the dressing rooms. Saturday, February 20: Grand Ball. The theme for the Grand Ball, "A Tale of Two Cities" has been cancelled, so that the weekend theme of a "Grand Tour" of Scotland, London and Paris could be kept until next year as desired by the event organizers. The Grand Ball begins on Saturday night. The doors to the period, candlelit ballroom open at 7:30 pm, and the Grand March begins promptly at 8 pm. A formal dinner, featuring a marvelous spread of period repasts, will be served during the evening. Festivities will last into the wee hours of the morning. Formal attire of the mid 19th century is respectfully required. Dressing rooms will open at 6:30 for those wishing to make use of them, Sunday, February 21: At Home Social. The Festivities end on Sunday with an At-Home social from noon to 5 pm. Games and conversation will be the order of the day, with skating and coasting (weather permitting). Period attire, skates and clothing are admired and preferred but not required. This event is free to all event attendees. Lunch and refreshments will be served. The location for this event will be provided to attendees during the weekend.
