Annual Winter Celebration

February 17-19, 2006 * Saint Paul, Minnesota

This year's annual winter event is in the spirit of Charity in conjunction with the Ladies Aid Society Bazaar to Support our Soldiers kept far from home this season (1863).

Schedule of Events

Friday, February 17: Theatrical. Revel in the Dramatic Talents of the MinneHaHa Players as they perform the lively Victorian farce, Turn Him Out! by Thomas J. Williams, which was first performed in 1863. The theatrical will be staged at the historic Triune Masonic Lodge, 1898 Iglehart Avenue, St., Paul. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Admission is $5.00 for LHS members or $7.00 for others. The performance begins at 7:00 pm. Civil War era attire is respectfully REQUIRED. This event is NOT OPEN to the public dressed in modern clothes as it has been in years past. A public presentation of the theatrical will be held on Friday, February 24 with modern clothing acceptable.

Saturday, February 18: Dance workshops will be conducted at the Triune Masonic Lodge from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Beginning and intermediate instruction in the waltz, polka, redowa, schottische, reels and quadrilles will be offered. Comfortable modern clothing is preferred. Lunch will be served.

The Winter Ball and Dinner will be held in the evening. Doors to the beautifully restored candlelit ballroom will open at 7:30pm. The Grand March will begin promptly at 8:00 pm. For Ladies wishing to dress at the Lodge, the dressing rooms will be open at 6:00pm. Live music will enhance what is sure to be a memorable evening. An elegant late-night supper will be served and dancing will continue into the wee hours of the morning. Children 14 years and older are welcome to participate. Formal Evening attire of the Civil War era is respectfully required for this event.

Sunday, February 19: Ice skating and coasting are planned at a beautiful Victorian park in northeast Minneapolis. Bring your period or modern skates and toboggans. Refreshments will be served. Modern skates and clothing are acceptable; period dress is preferred. This free event is held from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm. Lunch and other refreshments will be served.

From the West
Follow I-94 to the Cretin Ave. exit and turn right (south) at the top of the ramp. Proceed south to Marshall Ave. Turn left (east) on Marshall and go six blocks to Howell St. Turn left (north) on Howell and go one block to Iglehart. The lodge is on the southeast corner of Iglehart and Howell. Locate on-street parking and join the fun.

From the East
Follow I-94 to the Snelling Ave. exit and turn left (south) at the top of the ramp. Proceed south to Marshall Ave. Turn right (west) on Marshall and go seven blocks to Dewey St (one block past Fairview) and turn right (north). Go one block north to Iglehart and turn left (west). Proceed on more block to the lodge which is on the southeast corner of Iglehart and Howell. Locate on-street parking and join the festivities.

From the South
Follow I-35E to Ayd Mill Road. Stay on Ayd Mill Road until it ends at the merge with Selby Ave. Follow Selby Ave to Fairview Ave. Selby ends at Fairview, so you cannot miss the turn. Turn right. You will now be heading north on Fairview. Proceed to Iglehart (one block north of Marshall). Turn left (west) onto Iglehart and go two blocks to Howell. The lodge is on the southeast corner of Iglehart and Howell. Locate on-street parking and join the party.

From the North
If you're driving via I-35E, merge into I-94 and follow the directions above for "From the East." If you're coming via I-35W, follow the Minnesota 280 cutoff south to I-94 and exit at Snelling. Follow the directions for "From the East," above, with the exception of turning right onto Snelling instead of left. Alternatively, you can take any of St. Paul's North/South thoroughfares to Marshall and turn either left or right onto Marshall, depending on which one you have taken, and follow the directions for either "From the East" or "From the West" after the point of gaining access to Marshall from the directions above.
