Events - JollificationThe Living History Society of Minnesota cordially invites you toJollificationat Triune Masonic Lodge, St. Paul, Minnesota, October 25, 2003.In the recent past, this event has gone by a few different names, "Harvest Hop" and "Autumn Antics" among them. This year the gentlemen of The Society have elected to celebrate the glory of the legislative success of the 1857 Land Grant to the Minnesota and Pacific Railroad (M&PRR) by hosting the Hop under the name of Jollification. The original Jollification, held in Stillwater, Minnesota, included two miles of bonfires atop the hills. In the interest of public safety, the recreated Jollification will include far less fire. The day, Saturday October 25, 2003, begins at 9:00 AM with a Dance Workshop lead by our Dance Master and other Members of the Society skilled in such techniques. If you can walk in a circle the size of a modern basketball court, you are qualified to attend the Dance Workshop and you can dance. A Hearty Lunch will be provided during the Dance Workshop for a nominal fee of $2.00. The workshop itself is included with the Jollification registration fee. During the Hearty Lunch, members of The Society will review Ballroom Etiquette in preparation for the evening. Modern, comfortable clothing with good dancing shoes is encouraged for the Dance Workshop. The Dance Workshop breaks at 2:30 PM, freeing your afternoon to catch some rest and complete any last-minute preparations you might have for the Big Dance. For the evening festivities, period daywear is appropriate and encouraged, though not required. You may come in modern clothing or more formal period attire, as is your pleasure. The Jollification will feature live music by The Camptown Ladies, a wonderful group The Society has had the pleasure of engaging for previous events. Also during the evening festivities refreshments will be available throughout and a buffet-style supper will be served during one of the breaks. Dressing rooms will open at 6:00 PM for both men and women. The ballroom reopens at 7:30 PM and the Grand March starts promptly at 8:00PM. Dance cards will be provided for both men and women. Among the dances will be Waltz, Redowa, Polka, Reel, Quadrille, and Schottische. The Jollification is open to those 14 years of age and older. Come to DANCE! One ticket is good for all events.
Advance Tickets: The registration deadline is October 17, 2003. A late registration fee of $2.00 per person will be assessed after October 17th, including at the door. The Registration Form is available, for more information contact wmcrooks@lhsmn.org
